Welcome to the challenge. This is where we try to turn R0 into R10k playing online poker. No deposits, no bonuses, no bankroll boosts—just freerolls, grind, and smart strategy.
🎯 The Goal:
Turn a R0 bankroll into R10,000 by starting with only freeroll tournaments.
🛠️ Step 1: Register on PokerBet

📅 Step 2: Build a Freeroll Schedule
You’re not winning money if you’re not playing, so build a grinder schedule:
Register, verify your account, and opt into any freebie promos (just don’t deposit anything—gotta stay true to the challenge).
- Create a spreadsheet or calendar.
- Track daily freerolls, prize pools, and starting times. PokerBet freerolls normally start at 10am daily. But check back frequently as they sometimes have double freerolls, where another one happens at 5pm and this one is normally a satellite into a live event or a bigger tournament on PokerBet.
Example freeroll schedule for a new grinder:
| Day | Site | Time | Prize Pool | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mon | PokerBet | 10 AM | R3000 | Usually soft field |
| Tues | PokerBet | 10 AM | Sunday Slam Sat | Satellite |
| Wed | PokerBet | 10 AM | R3000 | Usually soft field |
🧠 Step 3: Play Tight-Aggressive (TAG) Style
In freerolls, most people are punting chips left and right. Until you’re deep in the tourney, just play tight:
- Play premium hands (AA-TT, AK, AQ) etc. Check out our starting hand guide for more info.
- Don’t bluff early.
- Value bet strong hands hard.
Once you hit the money, shift gears and start pressuring the medium stacks.
📓 Step 4: Track Everything
Start a poker journal (we recommend starting one in our forum or chatting about it in The South African Poker Community Discord). Track:
- Tournaments played
- Cashes
- Notable hands
- Mistakes made
- Bankroll
This will help you stay focused and avoid burnout. Momentum builds slowly at first.
Week 1 Goal:
- Sign up on PokerBet
- Play at least 5 freerolls.
- Start your poker journal.
- Focus on cashing in one game.
Check back next week for part 2. Good luck at the tables.
